All GEMFM faculty members have been selected on basis of four criteria: a) sound academic background; b) being inspirational lecturers; c) bringing practical relevance; d) professional delivery. They have been recruited from highly-ranked business schools, from a wide array of countries in four different continents.
Prof.dr. Jaap (Jacob) Spronk is the Director of the GEMFM Global Network. He has been a Full Professor of Finance at Erasmus University Rotterdam since 1982. First at the Erasmus School of Economics and from 2008 in the Rotterdam School of Management, where he was Academic Dean of MBA Programs until recently. In the School of Economics, he served as Vice-Dean for International New Business Development from 2003 until 2008, Director of Studies for the Faculty of Economics from 2003 to 2007; Director, Division of Accounting & Finance from 1996 to 2003; and Chair, Department of Finance from 1984 to 2003. Professor Spronk is now Emeritus Professor for both Erasmus Schools (Economics and Management). Currently he has a part-time full professorship at the University of Curacao. Fluent in Dutch, English, French, German and Italian, Professor Spronk has assumed professorships at a range of universities worldwide. He has been a Fellow of the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management in Brussels, Erasmus Research Institute of Management, and Tinbergen Institute (Member Founding Board). He is frequently invited by schools, universities and conferences around the world, and has been part of numerous selection committees for professorships in the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His awards include a Gold Medal of the International Society of Multiple Criteria Decision Making (2002) and he has been a member of the Royal Dutch Society of Sciences since 1988. Beyond his life in academia, Professor Spronk is often called upon as a consultant for government, financial institutions, companies and other institutions. Frequently published in books and journals, Professor Spronk’ s current research interests include Financial Management Science and Multidimensional Finance.
